My Cardboard Box

Life in the Mojave, Part 8

I let the Black Lab o’Doom out to fetch the newspaper at zero-dark-thirty this morning. It took a while for him to come back, but he did, with the paper.

As I was pulling out of the driveway later, I saw another paper on the ground in the headlights. Turns out it was a complimentary copy of the Los Angeles Times. Why on earth would anyone living over two hours from that place would want to subscribe to that rag is puzzling, unless you’re an artist who keeps a cabin here for the “funkiness”, then runs back to Santa Barbara making snide remarks about the desert rats.

I tossed it on the back seat of the car and reminded myself to give the B.L.o’D. an extra treat later for exercising good judgment. At least it wasn’t a coyote this time.
