According to [San Bernardino County CA] Fire officials, crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 84000 block of McCombie Road around 11:25 p.m. Saturday.  Upon arrival, units from Wonder Valley’s Fire Station 119 found the residence fully involved by fire. Neighbors reported the home was occupied, but believed the owners were out of town. The crew’s efforts were hampered by a lack of water in the area. Neither fire hydrants nor on-site water protection systems were available, and despite having water-tender support from the Town of Yucca Valley, firefighters were forced to shuttle water from a fire hydrant nearly 10 miles from the incident.

Fire units from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base, Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley stations responded to help; a total 12 people battled the blaze.  The fire was contained to the home and extinguished in about two hours. No injuries were reported.  Fire loss is estimated to be $200,000.   The blaze remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Meanwhile, the most pressing problem in Wonder Valley,  according to the ‘flatlanders’ , is off-road vehicles disturbing their ‘quality time’.
